A Colorado police officer is facing charges for pushing a 73 year old woman with dementia to the ground.
Karen Garner left a store without paying for $14 worth of items.
Authorites were called and Officer Hopp was one of the first officers to arrive on the scene.
He was wearing a body cam during the time of arrest and was seen chasing and catching the woman in a field.
The officer could then seen grabbing her arm and throwing her to the ground.
The woman’s family has since filed a lawsuit against the officers.
The lawsuit states that her arm was dislocated and she was denied medical treatment for 6 hours.
Three officers were also caught on camera joking about the woman’s arrest in the police station.
Officer Hopp could be seen showing his colleagues the body cam footage, and jokingly saying, “Ready for the pop?”
The officers have since resigned.
Austin Hopp is facing charges of second-degree assault, attempting to influence a public servant and official misconduct.
Daria Jalali, who arrived after Garner was handcuffed, is facing charges of failing to report use of force, failing to intervene and official misconduct.
