On Thursday afternoon, former Minnesota police officer, Kim Potter, 49, was found guilty on two counts of manslaughter. This was in relation to the death of Daunte Wright, 20.

In April, Potter fatally shot Wright during a traffic stop in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. He was trying to get away as officers were attempting to arrest him for weapon warrants.

Potter alleged that she intended to pull her taser but shot her gun instead.

The jury deliberated for more than 27 hours before reaching a verdict.

Defense lawyers requested that Potter be released on bail until sentencing, citing that she is a devout Catholic and wants to spend time with her family for the holidays.

The judge denied the motion, noting that this case couldn’t be treated differently than others.

Potter’s sentencing has been scheduled for February 18, 2022.
