Victor Mateo, a 65 year-old former pastor at Christian Congregation The Redeemer Church in New York City, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Wednesday.

In 2019, Noelia Mateo, his 58 year-old estranged wife, was leaving her residence. She was going to transport her grandchildren, 9 and 11, to school.

Victor then hit her with his car. Noelia attempted to get away from the man by diving underneath her own vehicle. He then got out of his car and entered hers. He proceeded to run over the woman more than once.

Afterwards, he attacked Noelia with a machete outside of her home, as the children watched.

Noelia died at a medical facility a short time later.

Victor Mateo traveled to Pennsylvania after the attack where he was apprehended.

When first arrested, he was charged with murder, manslaughter, acting in a manner to injure a child, and criminal possession of a weapon.

The estranged husband will be sentenced in January. He is expected to receive a 23-year prison sentence.
