The ex-Dallas police chief David Brown is coming back to Texas in a new position.
Brown stated that he is leaving his job as Chicago Police Superintendent effective March 16.
“I’ve accepted a job opportunity to be the Chief Operating Officer of Loncar Lyon Jenkins. This is a personal injury law firm with seven offices in Texas. I will be stepping down as Chicago Police Superintendent effective March 16, 2023 so the upcoming mayor can begin the process as soon as possible to hire the next superintendent…,” Brown said through a released statement.
The decision comes the day following Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s defeat in Chicago’s mayoral election.
In 2020, Brown was nominated for the police superintendent position by Mayor Lightfoot. Recently, the pair teamed up to come up with a plan to add more officers in the most dangerous areas of Chicago.
Brown, who is from Dallas and a graduate of South Oak Cliff High School, became a police officer in 1983 and was appointed to chief in 2010.
During the July 7, 2016, shooting that killed four Dallas police officers and one DART officer, Brown served as the police chief.
Just weeks after that, Brown retired from the Dallas Police Department.
