On November 19, in Las Vegas, Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford are set to fight for the undisputed welterweight championship. This comes after they have agreed to all the material terms for the match.
The deal isn’t completely official as the parties’ attorneys have to clarify legal language in the agreement, sources say.
The deal includes a bilateral rematch clause that the loser will have a right to request. If the rematch clause is implemented, the winner will receive most of money for the second match.
Spence, 147 pounds, holds many titles, including the WBC, WBA, and IBF, and Crawford has earned the WBO belt. The bout will be advertised as an event put on by Spence’s Man Down Promotions and Crawford’s TBC Promotions.
“I want Terence Crawford; that’s the fight I want. That’s the fight everyone else wants….Terence, I’m coming for that belt,” Spence stated back in April.
Spence, the 32-year-old from Desoto, Texas, scored a 10th-round TKO of Yordenis Ugas, in April. Then, he earned his third belt. This came after he had an operation to fix a detached retina. He was supposed to have a match against Manny Pacquiao in August but couldn’t go through with the fight because of an eye injury.
This was the second major obstacle of Spence’s career after he was hospitalized in October 2019, following a car wreck.
In November, Crawford’s TKO against Shawn Porter ended with his retirement. That led him to eliminating his promoter, Top Rank, and receiving a way for a deal.
“I’m free to do whatever I want. There’s nothing standing in the way of us fighting. There’s no promotion company that’s blocking it…, no wrong side of the street…, no nothing. Let’s see who the welterweight in this world is,” Crawford stated.
