A lawsuit has been filed by the U.S. Department of Labor against the owner of a Peachtree City, Georgia, repair shop. Miles Walker is accused of paying his employee his last check in pennies.

In March 2021, a man stated he got tens of thousands of pennies, covered in oil, as his final payment from A Ok Walker Autoworks.

“This is my final paycheck. Nine- hundred-fifteen dollars in pennies,” Andreas Flaten stated to a news outlet. He showed them a wheelbarrow full of 91,000 pennies. Since they had oil and grease on them, he had to wipe them off one by one.

When contacted by the DOL, Walker reportedly told them that he wouldn’t be giving Flaten his last check.

After finding out that Flaten communicated with the DOL, Walker poured the pennies in Flaten’s driveway. He included a note with profanity with the money and posted unpleasant things about Flaten on his company’s website.

The department has called this act retaliation. They encourage people to contact them if they feel that an employer has treated them unfairly.

On the shop’s website, it was documented that they have received death threats, threatening phone calls and emails, regarding the incident.
