3.1kviews

Governor Greg Abbott revealed on April 1 that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is granting more than $318 million in emergency Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) food benefits for the month of April 2022. The HHSC anticipates assisting more than 1.5 million Texas households in April.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) approved this request for extending emergency SNAP benefits through April. All households receiving SNAP benefits will receive $95 in emergency funds distributed to their accounts no later than April 30.

Within Abbot’s statement, he comments “Emergency SNAP benefits have played an important role in our efforts over the past two years to ensure that every Texan has access to nutritious food. We are grateful to HHSC and USDA for helping families across Texas remain safe and healthy.”

Emergency disbursements in April are on top of $6.4 billion that has been supplied to Texan families since April 2020.
