A man has been apprehended in relation to a fatal hit-and-run incident that led to the death of a 6-year-old girl with autism on Sunday night.
On February 18, David Polley, 67, was arrested and charged with causing a collision resulting in death. He is currently held at the Dallas County Jail.
The heartbreaking incident took place on February 16 around 10:25 p.m., when law enforcement was called to a hit-and-run accident involving a child in the 5900 block of Belt Line Road.
Investigators examined nearby surveillance footage, which captured the girl running from Ladera Drive into oncoming traffic on Belt Line Road.
The video showed a driver in a white Acura MDX, heading westbound, striking the child in the roadway. It also recorded the driver slowing down before hitting her and later returning briefly to check the situation before fleeing the scene without alerting authorities.
The child was rushed to a hospital, where she unfortunately passed away due to her injuries. Considering her young age, police have decided not to disclose her identity.
