The neurotrauma consultant who examined Tua Tagovailoa for a concussion on Sunday was fired by the NFL Players Association. This was after it was discovered that he made “several mistakes” when checking on the quarterback.
In the Week 3 game against the Buffalo Bills, the Dolphins quarterback left the game for a short time after being hit very hard and “wobbling the turf.”
Although many thought that Tagovailoa had experienced a concussion, the team noted that he had passed concussion protocols.
Tagovailoa stated that he had a hyperextended back which resulted in the fall. However, that fall prompted the NFLPA to investigate.
Prior to Thursday’s game, the league stated that it had “every indication” the team followed guidelines on Sunday.
On Thursday evening, Tagovailoa experienced another similar tackle against the Cincinnati Bengals. In this instance, it was documented that he had experienced head and neck injuries, and a concussion. His hands had tightened up on the field, and he was transported to a hospital.
A little while later, Tagovailoa was released and flew back to Miami with his teammates after the game.
Sources say that the consultant and the Dolphins’ team doctor were questioned on Friday as the NFLPA investigated.
When Tagovailoa was injured on Thursday night, many critics expressed their opposition, stating that Tagovailoa shouldn’t be on the field and could get seriously hurt.
Although the quarterback tweeted that he was “feeling better,” the team has no information about when he will return to the field.
Additionally, the Dolphins haven’t disclosed anymore information on the consultant’s firing or the errors that occurred.
