Deputy Shaquille O’Neal Teams Up With Dallas Sheriff Marian Brown & Other Leaders On Gun Buyback
On Saturday, February 10, at 9 a.m., Sheriff Marian Brown will hold Dallas County’s first gun buyback program. Dallas County leaders have teamed up to assist to help and sponsor Sheriff Brown’s program. Deputy Shaquille O’Neal, who is a licensed deputy in several states, will also be sponsoring the event.
“This is an opportunity for law enforcement to educate and equip community members with the tools to properly dispose of unwanted firearms. Too many deaths have occurred from firearms laying around, and they end up in the hands of our vulnerable population,” Sheriff Brown noted.
The goal of this program is to have a safe method for the community to get rid of unwanted firearms. Handgun owners will be provided with a $100 gift card and long guns will be given a $125 gift card. The gun buyback initiative is only offered to private residents of Dallas County. Firearm dealers/manufacturers can’t be a part of the program. Additionally, there is a limit of 3 firearms per person. Name and ID number will be required.
The Sheriff’s Community Partnerships is still taking donations for this program as many more initiatives like this are expected in the future.
