Democrats are working on a legislation proposal by President Joe Biden that would expand the existing child tax credit and send recurring monthly payments to families.
The draft proposal included that the IRS would deposit $300 a month into families accounts with children under the age of 6 and deposit $250 a month in families accounts with children between the age of 6 and 17.
That would give parents between $3000-$3600 for the year to help them through the pandemic.
This would only be good for a year but then Democrats could try to push for the proposal to become permanent.
House Ways and Means Committee Chair Richard Neal of Massachusetts, House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut and Rep. Suzan DelBene, Democrat of Washington are all on board with writing the expansion for the child tax credit.
