Passengers claim that Delta Airlines offered them $10,000 to disembark an overbooked flight from Michigan to Minnesota.
Last week, the airline is said to have offered the funds for 8 passengers.
“If you have Apple Pay, you’ll even have the money right now,” a flight attendant was quoted as saying.
“It’s a true story! I was on that flight. Unfortunately, I could not take advantage of the offer as I was flying with my wife. She has very limited eyesight and has to have me nearby when traveling,” stated one passenger, Todd McCrumb.
McCrumb added that the initial offer started at $5,000 and then rose to $10,000. Some people are said to have accepted the offer.
A spokesperson for Delta didn’t confirm that the incident happened. However, they did say that compensation is available for ground staff when things like this occur. They say the purpose for the compensation is so that employees can take care of customers on overbooked flights. It also ensures that the flights leave on time.
On Thursday, the CEO of Delta, Ed Bastian, offered an apology for flight delays and cancelations taking place.
“If you’ve encountered delays and cancelations recently, I apologize. We’ve spent years establishing Delta Air Lines as the industry leader in reliability. Although the majority of our flights continue to operate on time, this level of disruption and uncertainty is unacceptable.”
