Dallas police are investigating a hit and run incident that left a young girl dead late Sunday night.
Officers responded to a call on the 5900 block of Belt Line Rd., around 10:30 p.m., regarding a person laying in the roadway. Upon arriving they found a little girl, around 6 years old, in the westbound lanes.
Emergency crews arrived and transported the child to Children’s Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Authorities believe the child may have wandered from her home into the roadway where she was struck by a midsize white suv.
The driver of the vehicle turned back around to see what they hit and then sped away without rendering aid or contacting police.
Police are reviewing nearby surveillance footage to try and identify the driver. This is an ongoing investigation.
