Dallas Police Department To Assign Teams Of Officers To Crime-Stricken Apartment Complexes
Over half of Dallas’ most concerning areas, in regards to crime, is attributed to apartment complexes. Out of the city’s 47 grids named as high crime areas, 26 are apartment complexes, the Dallas Police Department stated.
Thus, DPD revealed on Tuesday that they have come up with a plan to help lessen crime at the problem complexes. However, many Dallas City Council members said that the strategic plan isn’t enough.
DPD has comprised uniformed officers who will be used to work in the apartment complexes. However, the plan doesn’t include new guidelines for the complexes, so some council members are concerned.
Although a team of officers is being formed, it still may not be enough to cover the problem complexes in the city. A sergeant and six officers will be assigned to 7-10 troublesome apartment complexes.
Still council members were wanting suggestions that would hold complexes more responsible.
“I was expecting for you to say, ‘This is required of you so we can prevent crime.’ It sounds like crime has to be bad for you to get involved,” stated Councilwoman Cara Mendelsohn.
Public Safety Committee Chair Adam McGough also shared his disappointment.
“Right now, I don’t even see an intentional focus. What is the cause of crime in over half of our grids in the violent reduction plan? The strategies we are currently using are not working.”
