Dallas Police Chief Garcia Releases Statement After 9 People Were Shot, Including 1 Deceased, During Party On Collins Avenue In Dallas
An investigation is underway after 9 people were shot during a party in Dallas over the weekend, in which one died.
The incident occurred on April 13, around 11:10 p.m., when officers responded to a call regarding shots being fired on the 4500 block of Collins Avenue.
Upon arriving officers learned that there was a party nearby that has just ended and the crowd had moved to the street. Officers stayed close by to monitor the crowd and around 1:30 a.m. they heard shots being fired.
This time 9 people were shot, including 7 women and 2 men, they were all transported to area hospitals by emergency and private vehicles.
Coriesha Bradford, 21 was pronounced dead at the hospital and the others were treated for non life threatening injuries.
Authorities learned that the party had around 40-50 people at the time of the shooting and that one person opened fire causing others to also start shooting into the crowd.
At this time authorities have made no arrest and have no suspect description.
Dallas Chief Garcia released a statement on April 14, 2024 stating: “I have many questions about what happened last night that led to the death of a 21-year-old woman, and eight people being injured.
While the preliminary investigation determined officers who responded did not observe criminal activity among the people in the area at the time, this event ultimately led to tragic consequences.
Our homicide detectives are currently working to determine who was involved in this incident, and how.
I’ve ordered an internal investigation to determine if we could have handled the circumstances of this call differently.
