23-year-old Tyrese Simmons, a capital murder suspect, has been caught in Oklahoma. This comes after he took off his ankle monitor and vanished prior to his trial.
Authorities in Dallas say that Simmons was apprehended in Tulsa where he will remain until he is extradited back to Dallas.
Simmons had been charged with capital murder for the fatal shooting of Brandoniya Bennett, 9. He was said to have been trying to shoot at a rival gang member who resided next door the girl in an apartment in East Dallas. During the occurrence, Bennett was shot in the head as she sat on a couch in her apartment.
Simmons’s trial was supposed to start on June 5. However, before that could take place, he took off his ankle monitor and went missing.
Authorities in Tulsa say that Simmons was found on June 22 at a hotel. At first, there was a standoff with him and the police. However, eventually, pepper spray had to be deployed, and Simmons was apprehended. He was then placed in the Tulsa County Jail.
Another man, Davonte Brown, was apprehended and charged with capital murder for his role in the killing. In 2022, he was found guilty and was sentenced to 45 years in prison.
