A Dallas man has been sentenced to 24 years in prison after he beat a homeless man to death with a rock.
39-year-old Darnell Lawrence was found guilty in the murder of Mohammed Mohammed, who he bashed with a concrete rock during an argument. Lawrence, who took the stand at his own trial, admitted to the act of crime but said he was only acting in self-defense.
According to witnesses, the two individuals were arguing over the drug K-2 when Lawrence picked up a 10-pound piece of concrete and began beating Mohammed with it. Mohammed, who was homeless and known to locals, was hospitalized for 3 days before he succumbed to his injuries.
The jury found Lawrence guilty of murder and decided on a 24-year sentence.
