A Dallas man, Winder Alex Canelon-Tiapa, has been charged in connection with a series of ATM thefts across Mississippi, including a notable incident at Community Bank in Tupelo on November 11, 2024. Upon responding to reports of property damage at the bank located at 1317 North Gloster Street, Tupelo Police discovered that an ATM had been forcibly broken into and a significant amount of cash was stolen.
The investigation revealed that this incident was part of a broader pattern, with multiple banks throughout Mississippi being targeted for similar crimes. The case took a decisive turn on November 12, 2024, when officers in Duncanville, Texas, conducted a traffic stop that led to Canelon-Tiapa’s arrest. Subsequently, investigators from Tupelo and Madison traveled to Texas, where they gathered evidence linking him to the ATM thefts in Mississippi.
Canelon-Tiapa was brought back to Tupelo on March 22, 2025, and was arraigned in Tupelo Municipal Court on March 24, where Judge Weir ordered him to be held without bail. He is now facing charges of Grand Larceny and Conspiracy to Commit Grand Larceny, and the case is set to be presented to the Lee County Grand Jury.
The Tupelo Police Department continues to investigate the series of thefts and has expressed gratitude to various agencies, including the Duncanville Police Department, the United States Secret Service Cyber Fraud Task Force, and the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office, for their collaborative support in the case.
