Longtime Senator, Royce West, is being honored by having a Dallas ISD school named after him.
On Tuesday, there was a ceremony that took place at the school’s campus in Southeast Dallas.
The Kennedy-Curry Middle name has now been taken down, and The Royce West Leadership Academy name has been put up.
“This moment is not lost on me, in terms of responsibility that has been bestowed upon me,” West stated.
The school had first been named to honor President Kennedy and Doctor Milton K. Curry, the ex-president the now- Paul Quinn College.
“This was the best decision we ever made. A promise made, a promise kept, a good investment,” said Sen. West’s former teacher, Shirley Fisher.
Although some groups opposed the renaming of the school, Dallas ISD’s board approved the change this past December.
Congratulations
