Dallas ISD Coach Receives Suspension After Leading Team to A State Championship Title

A Dallas ISD basketball coach is punished after he led his team to a championship title.

Madison High School Boys Basketball coach, Damien Mobley, coached his team to victory this season. They won the Class 3A state championships.

The University Interscholastic League announced on Monday that Madison had played 4 too many games this season. The UIL restricts teams to playing 3 tournaments and 21 games in a season.

As a punishment, the Madison boys basketball team was forced to forfeit three season games.

Mike Motheral, chairman of the UIL state executive committee, says Coach Mobley was intentionally breaking the rules. He explained that a coach who has been in the league for 20 years, knows the rules.

Coach Mobley has been suspended from the first seven district games next season and received a public reprimand. He was also given three years of probation, where no further incidents are allowed to take place. The Madison basketball program received two years of probation.

Mobley blames the overplay on accidentally over-scheduling.

In addition to the punishment from the UIL, Mobley also received a write-up from Madison High School’s Principal.

Madison finished 38-7, before the forfeits, this season.
