A fatal collision involving three vehicles claimed the lives of a 9-year-old girl and a 43-year-old man near the Texas-Oklahoma border over the weekend.
On Saturday afternoon, the driver of a van, 43-year-old Than Than Shwe, lost control on a curved section of the wet road and crossed over the median, crashing into an SUV head-on. A third vehicle also struck the SUV shortly after the crash.
The occupants of the SUV were a family of 5 from Dallas; Michael Mullens, 48, Marissa Mullens, 45, two boys ages 15 and 13, and a 9-year-old girl.
Hernando Trejos, 44, and Lorena Trejos, 39, from Fort Worth were traveling in the same direction of the SUV when it was struck. Their vehicle collided with the SUV as well.
The driver of the Van was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 14-year-old girl who was also in the van was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The 9-year-old girl was pronounced deceased at the scene and the rest of the occupants of the SUV sustained serious, incapacitating injuries.
The Trejos were also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials say the rain and poor driving conditions contributed to the crash.
