On July 8, close to 5 p.m., Corsicana police answered to a call regarding an accident involving injuries, close to the rail grade crossing in the 2000 block of East Powell Pike Road.

“A female caller, identified as the victim, 27, contacted CPD dispatch via 911 and advised that she had been struck by a train and was bleeding from her legs. Upon arrival, officers located and immediately began administering first aid to the victim who was still laying on the train crossing with life threatening injuries to her lower extremities. One leg was amputated at the hip, and the other was severely damaged,” a press release noted.

Officer Tommy Ordonez quickly applied a tourniquet and administered first aid, trying to stop further bleeding. The air ambulance was not in operation at the time, so the victim was taken by Corsicana Fire and Rescue by ground ambulance to Baylor medical facility in Dallas where she was in critical condition.

“Railroad personnel advised that the train had been backed up and pulled forward repeatedly as they were unloading other railway cars. All evidence at the scene indicates that the victim stepped between the cars as she was walking to her residence at a nearby apartment complex, and the train pulled forward during the loading/offloading of the railway cars and struck the victim,” said Police Chief Robert Johnson.

“Contrary to a social media post that stated there was a second victim that was deceased. That information is not true. There was no second victim. Incidents have to be investigated and reports have to be processed before the facts can be released to the public. Social media will not dictate when a report is completed or information is released,” he added.
