Coach Suspended After Restraining A Student Who Had A Gun

Kenneth Miller, a coach at Tri-Cities High School, in Atlanta, Georgia, has been suspended after defending himself. He had restrained a female student, who had a loaded firearm, after she chunked a stapler at his head.

Previously, Miller stated that the principal of the school had called him into the office in August. They discussed reports of guns on the campus. During that time, they had found a few guns.

“I don’t feel like I did anything wrong,” Miller stated in an interview.

Camera footage shows another teacher approaching the student before she slapped the stapler out of that teacher’s hand.

Miller was almost hit by the stapler and confronted the girl with the police in tow. He didn’t know that she had a weapon at that time. However, he had seen her on camera exchanging a backpack, and it looked suspicious.

“I only adhered to what Fulton County School Board Policy says you’re allowed to do,” he added.

The student hit Miller with the stapler as she was being questioned. Miller then grabbed the student, slammed her into a wall, and held her down until officers gained custody of her.

A gun was located on the girl, and she was arrested. Miller was terminated.

Later, the district changed its decision and chose to suspend Miller for defending himself against the girl.

“Mr. Miller inappropriately intervened in a student matter being handled by school administrators and law enforcement. Mr. Miller acted out of the scope of his authority and responsibilities,” Fulton County Schools stated.
