City Of Mesquite Files Lawsuit Against Apartment Complex Over Unsafe Living Conditions

1.9kviews

On Monday, February, 14, the city of Mesquite filed a lawsuit against Hillcrest Apartments. The city has stated that they have unsuccessfully attempted to get the owners to improve the living conditions of the renters.

The apartment complex, at 2019 Hillcrest St., has many individuals living there who get federal rental assistance. For years, they have endured a lack of suffient heat when it is cold and air-conditioning when it is hot. Having hot water all year long and other life safety issues haven’t been addressed either. Furthermore, criminal activity is a problem in the complex.

The city says they have had discussions with the owners to solve the problems. But, the recent serious occurrences, including black mold colonies contaminating the water, have left them no choice but to take the matter to court.

“The city expects all landlords to provide safe and sanitary conditions for all tenants. The action taken today is a necessary step to seek improved living conditions for the residents at the Hillcrest Apartments,” said the city manager.
