New York City is searching for an exterminator that can handle their rat problem.
The Adams administration posted a new position on Wednesday for a Director of Rodent Migration. This position will pay between $120,000 and $170,000; however, the person must have a college degree.
A candidate that has a “virulent vehemence for vermin” and the “drive, determination, and killer instinct needed to fight the real enemy- New York City’s relentless rat population,” is preferable, the post stated.
The city is looking to fill the position as a push to clean up the city and to take care of the increasing rat problem occurring. There has been a 70% increase in the rodents in the first eight months of 2022 as compared to 2020.
Homeowners who place trash on the curb prior to 8 p.m. will be fined in the future because of a new law. The current threshold to put trash out is 4 p.m.
“I’ve made it clear. I hate rats, and we’re gonna kill some rats. We’re putting a dent in our rodent problem,” said Mayor Eric Adams.
