Chief Deputy Sheriff Fatally Shot By Prisoner Who He Was Transporting

Chief Deputy Jody Cash, with the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office, in Kentucky, was fatally shot in the line of duty on Monday. He was shot outside of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.

According to an online statement, the 44-year-old chief deputy was taking a prisoner to another location when the prisoner shot him.

The suspect was also shot and killed in the occurrence. Authorities haven’t publicly identified him.

On May 16, around 2:10 p.m., multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the location. They then found both people shot. The chief deputy was transported to a hospital where he was declared deceased.

Chief Deputy Jody Cash had been an officer for over 20 years. His funeral services are set for Saturday.

No further details have been released about the incident.
