Chicago’s Mayor Lightfoot Is Adamant About Only Giving Interviews To People Of Color

On a podcast Monday, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot reiterate her position on interviews. She stated that she would only give interviews to people of color.

Lightfoot, who is the first Black female and openly gay mayor in the city, first made the declaration in May. Additionally, it was done on a day that marked the two year anniversary of her inauguration to people of color.

People have reacted differently to the announcement, but Mayor Lightfoot is now being sued by a reporter over her decision.

“I am a Latino reporter; however, politicians don’t get to choose who covers them,” reporter Gregory Pratt tweeted.

Mayor Lightfoot said in her interview, “I am Black woman mayor. I am the mayor of the third largest city in the country. Obviously, I have a platform. It’s important to me to advocate on things that I believe are important.”
