Cantaloupe Sized-Tumor Removed From Child’s Face

1.2kviews

Doctors in Manhattan removed a deadly tumor that was the size of a cantaloupe from a 5 year-old’s face. The girl, from Ethiopia, endured a harsh, long surgical procedure, and she joyfully revealed her new face on Tuesday.

Little Nagalem Alafa has never had specialized health care in her country. She has had the tumor on her face since she was born. It has prevented her from going to school and interacting with her peers.

The benign tumor had been growing quickly. Nagalem would have suffocated or starved because of the inability to swallow if the tumor had not been taken out.

So, the US government decided to assist her. An official found a pair of doctors, who are married, who agreed to perform the $500,000 procedure at no charge.

The medical condition is not common in the US because many children get it removed before it reaches that size.
