Nearly twenty percent of the world’s daily consumption of oil sits at California’s coast because the demand for fuel has gone down.
Because of the spread of COVID-19 the lockdown has caused the need for oil to skyrocket down hill, seeing as many people have no choice but to stay home.
Over three dozen ships stay at Long Beach all the way to Francisco’s Bay with unused oil, just floating until needed.
Because of this storage space has become quite scarce, seeing as they are being occupied by oil and after California filled all of the traditional tanks, they decided to push the rest of the oil in tankers afloat off Singapore, the U.S. Gulf Coast, and now the U.S. West Coast.
