Burleson police are investigating a shooting that left an officer injured early Wednesday morning.
The incident happened around 4:30am near Hillside Dr during a routine traffic stop.
According to reports the officer approached the suspects passenger side of the vehicle when he was shot multiple times.
Other officers arrived to the scene and transported the officer to John Peter Smith hospital where his condition is unknown at this time.
Burleson PD Chief Billy Cordell said that the officer was wearing a protective vest.
He also said in a statement, “He was struck multiple times. The vest did provide protection. Again, it’s preliminary so we’re not ready to release information on exactly what the injuries are,” he said. “He was talking on the scene but as far as extent, we gotta wait until the doctors get in there and I have not heard back from the hospital yet.”
