Authorities announced that a bride was arrested on her wedding day, in Mexico, after claims that she was involved in an extortion plot. This included her soon-to-be husband and six other people, as well.

The woman, only identified as Nancy N., was apprehended in December as she was about to marry another extortion suspect, only known as Clemente N. But, authorities couldn’t take the groom into custody.

The pair was a part of a group that had been said to have extorted chicken merchants in Toluca, close to Mexico City. They are accused of abducting four workers from a poultry store in Toluca.

One of the eight suspects that was taken into custody, named as Santiago N., is accused of being the driver of a truck that carried the victims.

A photo of the suspects that were a part of the extortion plot, a video montage depicting Nany N. in handcuffs, still in her wedding dress, and pictures of the supposed evidence was posted by the prosecutor’s office.

It has been reported that the suspects have connections to the La Familia Michoacana drug cartel. At the beginning of January, the same cartel was accused of a drone attack in the state of Guerrero. That resulted in the death of six people.

Misael N. was in charge of the extortion activities in the area as Nabor N. was the “main hoarder and controller of the chicken and egg trade,” authorities added.

Police say that rival gangs have been battling for extortion control in the area. The problems escalated in July when human remains and warning letters were discovered in Toluca. 11 members of the criminal gang, “ElPecha,” were then arrested.
