The Fontana Police Department in California has publicized body camera footage of an unarmed black man being shot and killed.
On February 13, a caller said someone was breaking in a nearby home. Officers responded and found Daverion Kinard inside. He ran out the home and ran through a construction site and backyards.
Kinard was sitting in a portable restroom when he was found. A metal item can be observed on camera, in his hand, before Officer Johnny Tutiavake shot him. The Chief, Billy Green, stated that the object turned out to be a lighter.
The chief noted that the investigation is not over. The DA’s office is trying to figure out if the shooting was criminal. An internal investigation will determine if any department policies were violated.
Additionally, $1 million given by the city to the family has already been agreed upon.
