Black Teen Handcuffed As White Teen Watches From Couch After Mall Fight

An investigation is taking place after a physical altercation took place between two teenagers at Bridgewater Commons Mall, in Bridgewater, New Jersey.

On Sunday, a video depicting the fight started to circulate the internet. It showed a Black, 14-year-old, named “Kye” arguing with a White teenager. Then, it became physical.

Two police are then seen running to the tussle and breaking it up. They detained Kye on the floor, kneeling on him and placing him in handcuffs.

The White teen was seemingly on top of Kye when the officers approached them. However, they allowed the White teen to sit on a couch to the side. They then left him there, by himself, as he observed what was going on.

“I was confused, like, why they saw me as a bad aggressor. If they don’t know how to treat the situation…equally and fairly, they shouldn’t be able to deal with the situation at all, ” Kye, an eighth-grader stated.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murray tweeted that he is “deeply disturbed by what appears to be racially disparate treatment in this video.”

The Somerset County prosecutor’s office has been asked to help in the investigation.
