Black Lives Matter Stopped From Receiving Donations From Amazon’s Charity Platform

1.1kviews

Amazon’s charity platform interrupted the donations to the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation. This is because of its refusal to report where they spent millions of dollars.

A spokesperson for Amazon stated that a part of AmazonSmile’s valid purchases online are given to charities. For now, it had to halt the donations given to the foundation.

“Unfortunately, this organization fell out of compliance with the rules in several states. So, we’ve had to temporarily suspend them from the program until they come into compliance.”

Amazon won’t move any more donations that are received to BLMGNF until they meet the requirements.

It was noted that in October 2020, the foundation received $65 million in donations from Thousand Currents, a charity organization. However, the group has not stated how they used the funds.

Therefore, many states have ceased the foundation’s opportunity to receive money. BLMGNF’s leaders may be held accountable for any fees or fines that may result from the action taken.

A tax-filing from the group showed no donations or grants being received. This came after the group altered the accounting period from a calendar year to a fiscal year from January-to-June 2020.
