Biden’s HBCU Money Proposal Decreases From $45 Billion To $2 Billion

Under President Biden’s administration, Historically Black Colleges and Universities were supposed to receive $45 billion in federal funding. Now, that number has decreased significantly to $2 billion.

Although it has been said that these schools need as much money as possible, legislators in the House Education and Labor Committee lowered the proposal.

“The students that go there-they are already strapped financially. That funding is not just for the university, but it’s for the benefit of the students,” said Jarrett Luter, NAACP Action Committee Chairperson.

Other leaders have highlighted the fact that HBCUs already receive less money than other universities in comparison. The money is needed for infrastructure and student learning. Luckily, the negotiations and modifications can still occur.

Leaders are urging people to reach out to their state representative and officials. They want to encourage others to give their insight on how HBCUs are essential and meaningful to many individuals.
