Officials are warning people and holiday travelers about this new scam called “juice jacking” which happens when you use the public USB charging stations at airports and other public locations.
Los Angeles County District Attorneys Office Luke Sisak is cautioning people that the USB ports in public places saying “a free charge” could drain your entire bank account.
They say the criminals load some type of malware into the charging stations and once users plug their devices in they become infected and in minutes your device becomes locked or taken over and starts sending all your personal information such as bank accounts and passwords to the criminals.
Sisak recommends people and holiday travelers to avoid borrowing strangers USB cords and or chargers and use AC power outlets instead of USB charging stations to avoid possible fraud.
