Less than two weeks after he was discovered unresponsive, Baltimore Ravens linebacker, Jaylon Ferguson’s, cause of death has been determined.
The Baltimore Medical Examiner’s Office stated that the 26-year-old football player died of the “combined effects of fentanyl and cocaine.” His death was documented as accidental.
On June 21, around 11:25 p.m., authorities in Northern Baltimore received the call. When they arrived to the location, they discovered Ferguson, from Louisiana, unconscious. After life-saving measures were unsuccessful, Ferguson was declared deceased at the scene.
Ferguson died one week following the Ravens’ training camp. He was getting ready to start his fourth season with the team.
Ferguson was a father to a daughter and a son whom he shared with his fiancée.
Through an online fundraiser to assist the children, it was learned that the family had just had a house fire. Many of the children’s items had been destroyed.
“He [Jaylon] desperately tried to put out the fire in order to save his children’s possessions to the point where his own toes were burned in the process.”
