On Sunday, a mass shooting occurred at a church in southwestern Nigeria.

Officials say that shooters, who had been on motorcycles, barged into the church. They began to fire their weapons randomly and detonated explosives. At least 50 people died, including children. Authorities don’t have a definite number of those who were killed nor do they know who the assailants are.

Mass shootings by motorbike-riding-gangs are uncommon in southwestern Nigeria. Most of these attacks happen in northern parts of the country that are constantly under seized by terrorists and other “bandits.”

The presiding priest, in this incident, was kidnapped, as well.

“I am deeply saddened by the unprovoked attack and killing of innocent people of Owo, who were worshipping at the St. Francis Catholic Church, today,” stated the Ondo state governor.

Nigeria authorities have committed to “hunting the men down,” and “making them pay.”
