Art Briles Walks Away From Grambling State University One Week After Being Hired

On Monday, Art Briles, a former head coach at Baylor, resigned as the offensive coordinator at Grambling State University.

After being a part of the organization for less than a week, the university has confirmed that Briles has chosen to walk away. He was hired on February 24.

This was the first employment of a coaching position that he has had since being terminated from Baylor in 2016. Then, a sexual assault scandal was taking place. In 2019, he was at Mount Vernon High School working as a head coach. He remained there for two seasons. Additionally, he worked with the American Football team, Estra Guelfi, located in Florence.

In 2013 and 2014, Briles won two huge titles at Baylor and ended his time there with a 65-37 record.

While he was the coach at Baylor, there were several sexual assault allegations against members of the football team. In August, the NCAA decided that the school would not face consequences directly.

However, they did say that, “The head coach failed to meet even the most basic expectations of how a person should react to the kind of conduct at issue in this case.” But, the statement also noted that Bribes couldn’t be the only person responsible for the “non-reporting” because that was normal throughout the entire campus.
