The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a suspect driving a dark colored Dodge Chrysler type vehicle that struck and killed an off duty Arlington police officer.

The incident occurred around 6 a.m., at I-20 and St. Augustine Drive near Dowdy Ferry Road when a vehicle struck an off duty officer on a motorcycle, headed to work.

The officer, later identified as Darrin McMichael, was transported to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries.

McMichael was a 24 year veteran with the Arlington PD and served his last 13 years with the Motorcycle Unit. He also served as a patrol officer for the North Patrol District.

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones said in a statement, “Officer Darrin McMichael was a respected and beloved member of our APD family. We are heartbroken and we are hurting. This is a devastating loss that will be felt for a long time. Please pray for his wife, who is also an APD employee, his family, his friends, and his APD family. They need all the support they can get right now.”
