On Saturday, a North Texas native who was Ghanan-born, Annette Addo-Yobo, was crowned Miss Texas 2024.

Addo-Yobo had competed as Miss Southlake. However, in 2023, she won the title of Miss Dallas.

Addo-Yobo is originally from Ghana but was raised in the U.S. and Canada. She is now a U.S. citizen and has had connections to North Texas for a long time. In 2020, she earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from UTD.

During the talent component, Addo-Yobo performed an outstanding spoken word, emphasizing autism awareness. This subject is very close to her heart as her brother is on the autism spectrum.

“The Miss Texas crown is much bigger than me. This crown is for every young child, teenager, and adult on the spectrum who felt alienated, abandoned, stereotyped, and unseen because of their different abilities,” Addo-Yobo noted on an Instagram post.
