“The First Lady loved watching the NCAA women’s basketball championship game alongside young student athletes… Her comments in Colorado were intended to applaud the historic game and all women athletes,” the White House has said trying to clarify comments that FLOTUS made on Monday.
“She looks forward to celebrating the LSU Tigers on their championship win at the White House,” the statement continued.
The LSU women’s basketball team defeated Iowa and have been named the NCAA champions. However, Jill Biden had said that she wants both teams to come to the White House.
At the Colorado State Capitol, FLOTUS made the remark on Monday, after being in attendance at the game the day before in Dallas.
“I know we’ll have the champions come to the White House, we always do. So, we hope LSU will come. But, you know, I am going to tell Joe I think Iowa should come, too, because they played such a great game.”
This left the Tigers star Angel Reese laughing.
“A Joke,” preceded by two laughing emojis is what Reese tweeted, in response to Jill Biden’s comment.
Reese even retweeted another option proposed by another person that read, “Michelle Obama can we (LSU National Champs) come celebrate our win at your house?”
This recent incident follows another incident that Reese had been a part of. She has received a great amount of back- lash for teasing Iowa star Caitlin Clark with John Cena’s popular “You Can’t See Me” gesture as they won the game this past weekend.
It isn’t known if the White House has actually invited Iowa to come for a visit or if Iowa would attend if the invitation was extended.
I would laugh at that too. Remember Iowa lost the game, why invite them??Would she have done that if LSU lost? NOT 🚫 smh
I agree with her cynicism!Unless this is a tradition to be continued by the WH, under any administration, FLOTUS shouldn’t be doing this!
