A former Dallas police officer, Amber Guyger, who was convicted of murdering Botham Jean in his apartment has been denied parole.

Guyger, who shot and killed the innocent man in September 2018, will not be eligible for parole consideration until October 2026, according to Alison Jean, Botham’s mother.

She was up for parole on what would have been Botham’s 33rd birthday. The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles made the decision to deny her request.

At the time of the incident Guyger claimed she mistook Botham’s apartment for her own and believed he was an intruder.

She was convicted of murder and sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2019. Guyger appealed her conviction but was denied parole.
