Amazon announced it’s support for a congressional bill that would allow states to choose whether to ban or regulate cannabis.
In November, Congresswoman Nancy Mace released the State Reform Act that would remove cannabis as a Federal Schedule I substance. It would introduce a new 3% federal tax on the substance.
Now, Amazon, which already supported cannabis legalization, has expressed support for the GOP bill.
Amazon tweeted, “Like so many in this country, we believe it’s time to reform the nation’s cannabis policy..”
Nancy Mace said that Amazon was most likey motivated to approve her bill because of the legal issues with marijuana that makes hiring difficult.
In September, Amazon openly advertised that they don’t screen applicants for marijuana use. They wanted to address the shortage of employees, noting that cannabis screening reduces applicants by up to 30%.
Prior to that, in June, Amazon stopped testing for cannabis use, apart from those positions regulated by the Department of Transportation.
