Well-known ‘Law & Order’ star and comedian, Richard Belzer, has died, sources have reported.
“I’m so sad to hear of Richard Belzer’s passing. I loved this guy so much. He was one of my first friends when I got to New York to do SNL. We used to go out to dinner every week at Sheepshead Bay for lobster. One of the funniest people ever. A master at crowd work. RIP dearest,” wrote Laraine Newman, an original cast member of SNL, on Sunday morning.
Belzer was most popular for his role as Det. John Munch on ‘Law & Order: SUV’ going back to 1996. In 2016, his character was written off of the show.
Before working on network TV, Belzer was a standup comedian and hosted various shows/specials.
Other famous shows that featured Belzer include “Moonlighting,” “Miami Vice,” “The Flash,” “The Wire,” and many more.
Belzer was also seen in films such as “Scarface,” “Fame,” “Fletch Lives,” “Man On The Moon,” and others.
Belzer leaves behind his wife Harlee and other extended relatives.
He was 78.
