Abbott Recalls Baby Formula Once Again After Finding Faulty Bottle Caps On Similac Items
Once again, Abbott is recalling Similac baby formula items. This time it is because of faulty bottle caps.
On Friday, the company gave a voluntary recall for multiple Similac ready-to-feed liquid products made at its Columbus, Ohio, establishment. It found caps on 2 fluid-ounce bottles “that may not have sealed completely, which could result in product spoilage,” a statement from Abbott read.
The statement added that the formula is “distributed primarily to hospitals, doctor’s offices, distributors, and some retailers in the U.S., including Puerto Rico,” with less items sent to Canada and other countries in Central and South America.
“The recall equates to less than one day’s worth of the total number of ounces of infant formula fed in the U.S. and is not expected to impact the overall U.S. infant formula supply,” it added.
Back in February, Abbott recalled baby formula products when strains of a deadly bacterial virus were discovered at a manufacturing plant in Michigan. The FDA warned about the potential dangers and investigated the deaths of close to 9 infants.
The recall had a great impact on the shortage of baby formula, and many stores are now trying to recover.
