Aaron Dean, an ex-Fort Worth Police officer who was convicted of manslaughter, will appear in court in December to appeal his conviction.
In December 2022, Dean was sentenced to almost 12 years in prison for killing Atatiana Jefferson when he responded to a call regarding her residence.
Dean was found guilty in the fatal shooting but now says the judge in the matter mishandled the case.
Dean and his partner had gone to the home after a neighbor had called police about a door that was open at Jefferson’s residence. She had been inside, and Dean had shot into the home from the outside.
An appeal hearing is set for Dec. 5 in Tarrant County.
Additionally, Dean will stay in custody as the appeal process ensues.
