Following President Biden’s announcement that he would be dropping out of the 2024 presidential race and endorsed vice president Kamala Harris for the Democratic presidential nominee, on Sunday, Harris stated that she plans to “earn and win” the nomination, according to CBSNews.

She added that her goal is to bring the Democratic Party together and to beat Donald Trump and his radical “Project 2025 agenda.”

In doing so, Harris also honored Biden for his great service and achievements throughout his career. She identified that him pulling out of the 2024 Presidential Race is a “selfless and patriotic act.”

“Democrats it’s time to come together and beat Trump! Let’s do this!” Biden stated after announcing his decision to bring his reelection bid to a halt, via social media.

Many popular Democrats quickly began to state their support for Harris, as well. This includes, ex-President Bill Clinton, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Senator Patty Murray, and others.

Harris becoming the top leader to take the place of Biden on the Democratic ticket comes after his shaky debate performance in June. This is when many Democrats called for him to pull out of the race, citing his age and mental capabilities.

Prior to becoming the vice president, Harris, of California, was a senator and is the first woman, first Black American, and first South Asian American to hold that position.

Within the first 24 hours of the recent announcement, Democrats have raised $75 million for her campaign. Harris is headed towards raising the most funds, in this time period, in the history of the country.

The Democratic National Convention will take place in Chicago, starting on August 19. This is when the party will officially select their nominees for president and vice president.
