On Tuesday afternoon, a 9-year-old boy was struck and killed by a school bus in Orange County, Florida.
Family members of Elyas Amyr Marshall-Rodriguez say that the child was killed after he exited the school bus at Waterford East Apartments.
They described how Elyas was a cancer survivor and a tough kid.
“He was in remission. He had just got his port taken out last year. Actually, he was diagnosed with leukemia, cancer, when he was two years old. He went through Make-A-Wish Foundation because of how severe it was. So he had already been through a lot his life,” stated one of his cousin.
Authorities say that at about 3:47 p.m., the child got off of the school bus as the bus began to pull away. Documents state that he “ran back” and “crawled underneath” the bus. No other children had been on the bus at the time as it was the final stop for the day.
An investigation is now underway to determine why the child went back and crawled underneath the bus.
Reports indicate that the 54-year-old bus driver had been a driver for over 10 years. He remained at the scene and has been working with detectives.
So sad.
Preyers for the family.. RIP Elyas 😭😇

The only thing thay makes sense is he dropped something and it rolled under the bus and he went under after it. So so sad. 🙁
