8th Grade Football Star Shot And Killed Leaving Prom After Party

A 14 year old star athlete that has been highlighted in Sports Illustrated as one of “Six Teens Who Will Rule the Future in Sports” was shot and killed at a prom after party Saturday night in Venice, Illinois.
According to police reports officers responded to a disturbance and shooting call on the 600 block of 3rd Street and when they arrived they found Jaylon McKenzie,14 and an unnamed 15 year old teen girl suffering from gunshot wounds.
McKenzie was a star football player at Mason- Clark middle school who had already received college offers for football.
His mother Sukeena Gunner says her son was attending a party and trying to leave to avoid a fight when he was stuck by a stray bullet.
Emergency crews arrived and transported both teens to a nearby hospital where McKenzie later died and the girl is still in critical condition.
The shooting is still under investigation and officers have not arrested any suspects at the time.
